The Pink Pig Tail Jig Fly was shown to me at Branson’s MTFA meeting.  There might be another name for this fly but for now will call it the Pink Pig Tail.  Ron Leggins and Mike Kidd said that is was catching fish on Taneycomo.  The one given to me was tied on a 1/32 jig hook.  I would think a 1/100 or a 1/128 would also be good.  I like the Tiemco TMC5220 BL hook which has an angle of 60° instead of the 90° on the standard jig hook.  You do not need a slotted bead and if you use Tungsten, the weight can be eliminated.   I have taken great detail to show you how I color and used the bead on this hook.  And added two other colors, white and yellow.

Materials

  • Hook: Tiemco TMC5220BL or Jig Hooks
  • Hook Size: 10, 12, 14, 16, 18
  • Body & Tail: Ultra Chenille – Fl. Pink
  • Head: Brass Bead or Tungsten
  • Ribbing: UTC-Thread Pink
  • Thread: UTC-Thread Pink 8/0 or 6/0

Tying Steps

After the paint had dried, I used Sally Hansen Hard as Nails to seal everything.

Do not cut off the tag end of the thread.  It will be used as the ribbing.

Fishing instructions: The fly is fished on a sinking lead or line and stripped.
