Name this fly the Mini Trout Rat Fly. I have been watching and trying to tie some of the mouse deer hair flies on YouTube. And to be honest with you, I have trouble with tying them. Yes some come out OK but the majority does not. Also, I wanted a small mouse for the trout in our area. Like a terrestrial size big grass hopper. So when I tried this fly it looks like a rat, thus the name. A couple of tying suggestions as you look at the steps below. After tying on the tail and before adding the deer hair, add some Gel Super Glue. Tie on the deer hair and let the glue set up before trim off the excess deer hair. After the fly is finished, use super glue behind the ears and UV clear for the snout and nose.
